Julie Strong (b 1969) is a contemporary abstract painter living and working in New York City.

Emerging into painting in late 2023, she brings a lifelong devotion to visual culture into a new phase of generation and re-generation, where materials, intuition, and experience continually compose one another. Her work often dwells in the fertile space where nature brushes against the futuristic, revealing a quiet tension between the earthly and the cosmic.

Guided by the elegance of botanical forms—seeds, blossoms, leaves—abstracted into symbols of cycles and potential, Julie paints with an attunement to both the physical world and the unseen energies that shape it. Her surfaces explore the interplay of light, color, gesture, and the subtle alignment of personal energy, resulting in compositions that feel simultaneously grounded and ethereal. Working primarily in oil with mixed-media understructures, she layers pastels, brights, and faint fluorescent pulses that hint at life just beneath the surface.

With more than thirty-five years immersed in art and design, Julie’s creative lineage spans photography, film, and television—fields in which she has worked as a photographer, producer, writer, actor, and model. Her experience as a designer and organizer of physical spaces, and her training as a certified breath and meditation coach, continue to shape her approach to rhythm, spaciousness, and embodied mark-making.

As a self-described “young painter,” she draws on her background in fine art photography, printing, and energy work, weaving these disciplines into a painting practice that explores cycles of bloom, decay, renewal, and becoming. Her work rests within the threshold between matter and light, inviting the viewer into a world where natural abundance, subtle sci-fi futurity, and inner stillness converge.
