toucan was built on an underpainting first created in 2024 and was completed in late 2025. Built of the same elements and symbols common in my work, it wasn’t until I stepped back that I noticed the abstracted beak and head of a bird, landing somewhere between realistic and cartoon with an interplay between the blended pastel surface and an active more “disturbed” energy just below
