when we look away was created on canvas paper which allowed for experiments with an active underpainting, adding and scraping away to reveal the pattern in the paper surface below. This gave a depth and texture that evoked an imagined scenario in blue orange and pale neutrals of what might exist in a dimension just beyond our vision
